Backfiring

My 2001 vstar 1100 is backfiring a little. Then I hear a whistle of what seems like an air leak somewhere. Can't find it while idling. Only while riding at low speed.

Have you tried having the bike in neutral and slowily increasing the rpm's while you listen?

check the hose behind the air cleaner

Welcome from Washington state just NE of you about 8 hrs. Check the exhaust header clamps. If they are loose you will get a backfire. If they are loose you may hear a sucking sound of fresh air getting in to the exhaust. This will give you the backfiring.
