issue with the m109r and the c109r specifically 08/09

Just putting it out there, has anybody had any issues with major mechanical breakdowns due to gearbox problems, apparently, the m109r has an issue with second gear which suzuki has been replacing at random. My issue with my bike specifically is that it has been crunching in second gear since new. When i asked suzuki about this issue, they said it was normal for them to do this in second gear, so i didn't worry about it,
The issue is two weeks ago i was riding along a highway towards Woolongong along the coast road with my girlfriend on the back at about 110km and the bike just decided to just totally lock up which caused us to skid uncontrollably luckily the road was a straight road and there were no other cars around.
Apparently something broke in the gearbox which cracked the top and bottom housings of the engine... so it appears that i am up for $7000-$8000 in repairs and a majority of that is in parts...... now my bike is a C109R which has only 17000 klm and i mainly only ride it on weekends... the bike is only 12 months out of warranty, there are no engine modifications that have been done apart from the Cobra pipes and hyper charges all of which were fitted at Suzuki.
I would just like to know has anybody had any issues with their boulevards or is this something that might be an issue after the bikes reach a certain amount of km.

Hmm..that doesn't sound good!
Nothing on the govt recalls website for Suzuki:

No doubt you have been on the Aussie and overseas 109 forums?
Interesting and long discussion here: http://www.m109riders.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119793

Good luck mate!

they dont show the recall they had on some m109r with the issue they had with second gear
and i did have a recall on a electrical issue i had on my bike so i guess they dont show all off the recalls they have wonder why ?
thanks steve

The very first thing I would do is contact consumer affairs. You put them on notice about the gear changes and you may have some recourse. C.A. will also be aware of any recalls you should have been told about. Recalls are not only applicable to owners who bought new. There will be a clear cut decision or you will be paying big time sadly. Good luck and please keep us informed of how it goes.

i will thanks it does look like their have neem heaps of problems with the m109r looking at
http://www.m109riders.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119793 site but it also looks like suzuki doesnt want to know about it poo hoo

If Suzuki won't come to the party, will insurance cover the damage?

I would make it known to them that you said something to them about 2nd gear making a noise (when it was under warranty) and they tried the whole "Well that is normal." thing that has now cost you an engine. I do believe that normally breaking isn't normal AT ALL. If it isn't pushed into their faces they aren't going to do anything about it. If it comes down to it and you have full coverage get it fixed and then inform the insurance company to their neglegance and then they will go after them for the money. LOL

hi vardy i did explain to the insurance company and they did say i could put in a claim buy not really sure if they would cover major motor isues i guess just looking around if any one has gad the same issues

hi crazyace the bike is at suziki now and they are looking in to the issue if they dont do nothing about it then i will put a claim in and let them chase it good point
Smiley-wink

Leo - not the same as your bike situation but a friend of mine had the motor on his Audi Q7 suv pack it in. Was just out of warranty - as seems to always be the case. He fought it to the end because a new motor cost $27,000 (yep, $27,000!!). Audi would not come to the party but he finally got his insurance company to pay up - all it cost him was the excess ... but he had to hang in there and as Terry said, push it into their face. If Suzuki won't come to the party and insurance won't cover, tell them you are going to do a YouTube clip to tell the world how crappy they both are. Have a look for the YouTube clip a young bloke did after one of the US airlines broke his guitar and would not pay. The clip went viral and the airline was begging him to accept compensation. IF you do go that route though, be careful of the law of slander. Good luck.

thanks vardy for the advise nice picture from the thredbo ride last years i take it ?
the weather was fantastic i was their also got a lil bit of rain on the way back to sydney

Leo - yes was taken during the 2011 Snowy Ride - taken at the lookout at Charlotte's Pass. went in 2010 as well. Was looking fwd to going again this year but the National HOG Rally is being held here in Canberra the same weekend and I have volunteered to help.

Good luck and don't let the buggers beat you! I like the name and shame campaign idea.
Peter, the HOG rally looks like some fun http://www.australianationalrally.com/

Will be my first Steve - looking forward to it.

A good post that I'll be watching with interest. My C109R is out of warranty but I have no issues at this stage.
I hope it all works out for you leo.

You guys who complain about the first to second shift on the 109s crack me up. Especially the ones of you who think it is something new, this problem has been documented and mentioned since 2006. Most of us, learn to change gears a little different than other bikes and also adjust our clutches a little. But this is not a new problem by any means, some bike are a little worse than others.

Regards Robo

I looked at a 109 once, and decided to keep my C90T. My C90T has issues with the stator, but I can swap that out myself for about $300 u.s. For once in my life, I made a good decision! LOL

I have a 2008 Suzuki c109 etc. I am having a shift problem it’s shift to second and won’t go any higher. I was thinking it was a shifting fork for it shifted upper gears last year and not lower but it did fix it self but now the latter problem . Help

Bought my m109r five years ago, new. After the first month, I stopped using 1st and 2nd gear. I realized she had more than enough power to take off in 3rd,,so that's what I've been doing and have never had a single problem. I only use 1st and 2nd gear as maneuvering (thrusters).

FI flashing,, trouble from defective fuel tank gauge..pls. help...

my m109 also jumps out of second gear wheels trying lock up I don't understand why Suzuki won't fix this problem. mine is in Murfreesboro Tennessee I can't get Suzuki to even look at it
