Tires

Hello all, my name is Tim, I live and ride out of slc, ut. Does anyone know for sure if 150/80 R16 will fit under my 2003 kawasaki vulcan 800 classic? It currently has 140 90 R16 on it. But I like the idea of a wider tire and I can get one on ebay for a good deal. Help please?

Welcome to CCC forum from Canberra Australia.
As a guide I use the link below to do the calculations you are talking about. Yes it will fit but there are other factors to take into account.....the decision is your to make.
Note I have already inserted your tire choices.

Hi there.
I own a 1998 Vulcan 800 Classic. Me too wanted a wider rear tire, so last year, I went for a 160/80. Ended up not satisfied, since it just become a rad wider than stock. This year, I mounted a 180/90. Better, yes, but the rim at only 3" is of course too small. Though, I intended to somehow find a wider rim. I searched around the globe with no luck. So, what to do? I bought a used rim on ebay, and decided to build my own rim using two rims. Easy peasy. I cut one of the rims just inside the outer edge, and the other one on the inside edge. This way I had the opportunity to weld the two widest rings to the widest center ring. Now, I have a 4,5" rim ready to paint tomorrow (after sand blasting to get rid of the chrome) The 180 tire will fit this rim perfectly, and I really look forward to a completely new look Smiley-laughing
