"Where have I been" maps

On some biker forum sites members show "where have I been" maps. We could add a similar feature where you create those maps on wherehaveibeen.info and then upload them to your profile.

If you like this idea please give it a thumbs up

Update:

I could implement a this feature pretty quickly if we use http://wherehaveibeen.info to create the maps, save the maps there and then upload the image files to your profile.

Issues with that:

- we couldn't do "places ridden" vs "places visited" or even a "places I want to go"
- the maps are graphics, you can't mouse over to see names of countries or states or links for more details
- when you want to update the map a year later you'll have to create it from scratch again
- no map for Australian territories

I'll do a bit more research, would be cool if you would use interactive maps like his example

Great idea............the old site had something like that , but each person kinda had to do it individually through somewhere else............your the man...have a GREAT & SAFE weekend !

Heck yeah! Bring it on uwe. That sounds like the best idea yet.

Are we talking about where we have visited or where we have ridden?
http://tinyurl.com/d5ttsyk

I like the map with all the colored states to indicate where you have ridden.

"visited" or "ridden"? Good question ...

A different colour for each
Blue for visited, green for ridden !

I like the idea

do it

Visited is nice, but ridden I think is more to the point... my 2 cents.... I do like Adrian's suggestion or a separate map for each...

Yeah. What they all said.

Phil , can u tell where Ive been tonite ?

Bloody hell!!!!!!!!!! I don't know where I've been!!!!!!!!

You have been to the "liquor store , the "pharmacy and the porn shop "............REMEMBER !

Pharmacy??????????????????????????

Do you still have that rash Phil ???????

I don't remember even going to the pharmacy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Certainly can't remember why I went!!!!!!!!!

You went to get me some "weekend " supplies ............Be at the mailbox waiitng !

Awesome idea Uwe. You never cease to impress the shit out of us all.

CB

thanks, CB, we'll just keep improving the site day by day Smiley-wink

Here is one for the states. http://www.visitedstatesmap.com/

br

cool. http://wherehaveibeen.info can do US and Canada as well, just change the map in the top left.
Bummer it can't do Australia ...

Oh cool! I didn't realize that thx

sounds cool, visited or rode in is the same meaning for me, but it should be with your bike only. In my mind I have visited many a country, state, universe, etc, thus the map would almost be all colored.

How rude...Isn't Canada and the USA a suburb of Australia?

beachy, sssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. We can get someone else to take them!!!!!!!!!!!

This side is for push bikes. But may be you all might be interested in something like this as well . You can map out were you have ridden. It shows elevation of were you road and if you have the goggle earth plugin, You can watch a video of the road traveled in 3D
A 21.91 km Bike Ride - Cruiser mapped on Wed Nov 14 2012 and more rides in Featherston, New Zealand on MapMyRide. Find ride

Nice

Adrian, I always thought Australia was part of the Virgin Islands! I'm sure I remember learning that in the 6th grade! (Which was as far as I went 'cause I was certain I already knew most everything anyway!)! LOL!!! You tryin' to tell me now you aren't a territory of OURS??? LOL!!!!!

You guys may have heard of ancient Greece and Rome, then there was the British Empire, then there was the US of A and now he have just started the rise of the great southern land and I don't mean New Zealand Biggrin

Marty, you have no chance of finding a virgin here. We sacrificed them to the cruiser gods. BTW Greece, Italy, the UK were suburbs of Australia once too I think.

Too bad! Guess I'll have to plan a visit anyway just for the great company, ride routes and scenery! Next I suspect you M8's will be claiming Australia was the cradle of of the human species and while the aborigines were out on a leisurely Sunday ocean cruise just happened to discover Africa and decided to stay awhile!!! Smiley

No one actually knows how things evolved but science tells us that the Australian land mass is the oldest on the planet, hence the lack of large mountains, they have been eroded down over the millennia. Not saying that everything started here but there is no doubt we were here first Biggrin

Here check this one out. It is a very interesting video that actually makes more sense than not.

Hi Kelvin, that's a cool idea, you might want to post that as a "new website idea".

I'll do a bit more research, would be cool if you would use interactive maps like https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/interactive/docs/gallery/geo...

So in other words, I need to run my time machine backwards til the land masses touch, start riding my bike til I get to Oz. Won't need any planes, or ships. When I get to Oz, just forward back to present time and leaving people needing airplanes and ships to get to various continents.

Randy, or is it Doctor Who Smiley-laughing your getting the idea Smiley-laughing

That was pretty interesting Terry. I wonder where all the water came from though?

Randy can you imagine the ride maps from doing that?

Yea that was my first question when I first saw it too. Maybe the water has always been there and it was actually over the land instead of under it?

I don't think anyone has thought to go into that much detail with any of the where you've been maps Uwe.

So Terry, you're saying I would have to be snorkeling to ride to Australia even if I time traveled back? Bummer. I just so hate flying and big boats, but how else am I to get to Oz in 3 years? Maybe I can find some radical engineers, have them make this outrageous bet on who can build the bridge over the oceans to join the continents. back to the original discussion.

would be kind of neat if one could find a interactive map that would color the roads one has actually ridden on.
Uwe, http://www.1stwebdesigner.com/tutorials/interactive-travel-map-google-ma.... Would this be in that realm?

Sounds like a plan.

Now there's another good sounding plan !

Hi Randy,
Kelvin had suggested something similar in this discussion (http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/fullscreen/153504005/)
It would certainly make it more complex to implement. I suggest to post that as a separate "new website idea"

I like the map my ride site.

Interesting. That is a good site to plot a trip. I like it too.

Why no Australia, We do have electricity, flushing toilet's, Phone's & Paved road's you know..HA HA HA

NO WAY !!!! I thought yall was still backwards down under. I mean I just watched Quigly the other day. LOL.

Ouch Bruce mate

Couldn't help myself. Still love you guys. LOL

Allan! A 20 liter bucket with water in it does not count as a flushing toilet. LOL.

Remember the movie " MASK " with Cher and Sam Elliot ? Can we just get a map and put "stick pins " in it ?
