Growing up I always rode bikes, mini bikes and some dirt bikes, after the Army I bought a 79 650 Yamaha and rode some. It only had 15,000 miles on it when I sold it and took a 25 year break to raise ... more
a family.
When gas went up in 2007 I bought a 1300 V Star and have been averaging 18,000 miles a year, mostly as a daily commuter(56 miles to work). I enjoy riding and ride with my friends from the Festus, MO 437 Star group. I also belong to the online group 1300tourer.com and an occasional Patriot Guard Rider. My wife rides with me on her 09 Vulcan 900 LT. Last year we rode with the 437 group to Star Days in Chatanooga, TN. So far I've rode through IL, KY, TN, SC, AL, GA, NC, VA, and AR, enjoyed the ride very much.
I missed out on Star Days 2011, in WI at the last minute. Oh well there is always next year. Update, I founded out that next year Star Days will be Reno,NE. I not positive, but the 3rd week of July maybe a little to hot for me and the wife.
I've done most of the mods on the bike and changed the handle bars, grips, seat, fuel processor, intake, exhaust, and more. I'm not a chrome nut, some chrome is good. I beleive if you can get out on two wheels and enjoy this great country, do it. There is nothing like it in this world.
Just my 2 cents from an old gearhead

edit- at 56 I enjoy riding and meeting all kinds of people along the way. Its amasing the people that will come up to you and talk about the bikes and trips that they have taken.
The Darkside is here to? I've almost worn out my 3rd darkside tire now. I've had 3 Dunlop Sport 5000. Getting ready to buy the Altimax 205/60/16 for the Girl. She needs a new pair of shoes (over 20,000 on this one). The MT 66 rear tire is on the front now, 2nd one of those.
I'm still learning this site, so bear with me.
